With respiratory illness season around the corner, the Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD) encourages residents to make a plan to get vaccinated! Most local pharmacies and primary care offices have flu and COVID-19 vaccines available. Currently in Massachusetts, all individuals aged 6 months and older are eligible for both vaccines, although guidelines for COVID-19 eligibility may change in the coming weeks. You can stay up to date on COVID-19 vaccine eligibility by visiting CPHD’s Get Vaccinated page.

CPHD is planning its fall vaccine clinics. Five large public clinics will be held in community locations this year.

All CPHD clinics will offer flu vaccines for individuals aged 6 months and older. CPHD is waiting for finalized eligibility guidelines for COVID-19 vaccines. At minimum, people aged 65 and older and those with a risk factor for serious illness from COVID-19 will be eligible. CPHD anticipates that Massachusetts guidelines will allow for broader access to COVID-19 vaccines and will share more detailed information when it becomes available. The health department encourages everyone who is eligible for these vaccines to get vaccinated to protect against serious illness.

In the meantime, mark your calendars! Appointment links will become available on our website once vaccine guidance is finalized.

In addition to encouraging vaccines for all who are eligible, CPHD offers some reminders about basic measures to protect against illness and to prevent its spread:

  • Wash your hands!
  • Cover your cough or sneeze.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Get tested for COVID-19, flu, or other illnesses if you have symptoms.
  • Mask up if you need to.
  • Talk to your doctor about treatment options.

Be healthy!
