Overview
A tattoo or piercing apprenticeship program lasts either two years or 2,400 hours, whichever comes first. These programs ensure that future body art professionals have mastered the techniques necessary to practice in a safe and health-conscious manner.
The Cambridge Public Health Department requires an apprentice to work a set number of hours on certain tasks and master a set number of procedures before he or she can qualify for professional licensure. These requirements are described in the task sheets.
An apprentice must be supervised by a practitioner who has been professionally licensed for at least three years and who can show evidence of full-time experience during that time.
