State Releases Public Health Advisory on Recall on Moringa Leaf Powder Products
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MA DPH) is advising consumers, retailers, and clinicians about multiple recent Salmonella outbreaks associated with recalled moringa-containing products, including powders, capsules, and other dietary supplements. Massachusetts is among the states with reported cases.
Salmonella are bacteria that can cause foodborne illness. Although the disease is usually limited to the bowel, and most infected people do not have any serious medical complications, Salmonella can spread to other systems of the body, such as the blood and bone. This may cause serious complications in infants and in people who are very old or are immunocompromised.
MA DPH, CDC, the FDA, and public health partners across many states have been investigating Salmonella illnesses linked to moringa products since late 2025. The investigation in Massachusetts is ongoing to determine whether additional products are being distributed in the state.
These products have been distributed nationwide, primarily online through company websites and other online retailers. Recalled products should not be eaten, sold, served, distributed, or purchased.
