Tuberculosis (TB) Services

Tuberculosis Program at CHA Cambridge Hospital

The health department operates a TB program that serves Cambridge and other Massachusetts communities. The program is based at the Schipellite Chest Center at CHA Cambridge Hospital. Services include: 

  • Evaluation of patients who have a positive skin or blood test for TB.
  • Treatment of patients with latent TB infection.
  • Treatment of patients with active TB disease.
  • X-rays, lab tests, medications, and clinic visits.

*If you are a physician referring a patient for TB services, please include the date and size in millimeters of the patient’s positive TB skin test or TB blood (T-spot or Quantiferon TB tests – also known as IGRA) test results.

Tuberculosis Care Management

Cambridge public health nurses (PHNs) investigate and follow up on TB exposures that occur in Cambridge, provide TB care and case management services to people who live and work in Cambridge, and coordinate care with state and local health departments, as needed. Cambridge public health nurses offer the following services:

  • Direct observed therapy (DOT) in the home or workplace for Cambridge residents.
  • Case management and coordination with local health departments.
  • Investigation and follow up of TB exposures in Cambridge.
