What is a fiscal agent?

Your fiscal agent is the organization who receives the grant payments and manages the project’s finances. This fiscal agent must be a public charity (501(c)(3). If a public charity is not part of your team, you will need to partner with one that can serve in this capacity. Your fiscal agent does not need to be a member of your core team.

Can an organization apply for both grants?

An organization may apply for both if the applications are for two distinctly different projects. For example, if an organization applies for funding through Healthy Eating and Physical Activity for a community garden, another workgroup within the same organization may apply for funding through Youth Wellness for a project that is not part of that community garden. However, if the organization had combined these concepts into one project, it could only apply for one grant.

Can two organizations apply together?

You may have the support of a community partner, however, one organization should be designated as the lead. The lead organization’s contact information, address, and fiscal agent should be listed on the application. The supporting organization may provide a letter of support, and it is encouraged to explain the role of each partner on the application.

Can more than one application come from the same organization?

Multiple applications are allowed from the same organization provided they are distinct projects and submitted by different staff members (ex: applications submitted by two different teachers at the same school).

Why is it important to know if my organization has other funding sources?

Sometimes, applications describe projects that require more funding than we are providing. If that funding is in place, and our Mini-Grant fills a gap in funding, the project is more likely to move forward compared to one that has not yet obtained everything that it needs.
