Protect against Flu and COVID-19 this Season

As summer comes to an end, Cambridge Public Health Department staff are thinking ahead to this fall’s vaccine clinic schedule. We’ll be offering flu and COVID-19 vaccines, as available, for all eligible residents.

Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine with rare exceptions. Vaccination is recommended for all who are eligible because it can reduce flu illnesses, visits to doctors’ offices, and missed work and school due to flu. It can also make symptoms less severe and reduce flu-related hospitalizations and deaths. A flu vaccine is particularly important for people who are at higher risk of serious complications from influenza. October is the ideal time for most people to get a flu vaccine.

Keeping up-to-date with COVID vaccinations remains extremely important to protecting against severe illness. Vaccination can also reduce the severity and the duration of long COVID. CPHD will be watching the meeting of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) on September 12 for this season’s recommendations about COVID boosters. We will inform the public about the CDC guidelines as soon as that information is released and will provide the recommended COVID vaccines when available at our clinics.

To offer flu and COVID vaccines, CPHD will host five large public vaccine clinics in addition to smaller clinics at senior buildings, shelters and meals programs throughout the city. Once COVID vaccine guidelines are released, you’ll be able to register for an appointment on our website. In the meantime, mark your calendar!
