Every five years, the City of Cambridge conducts a comprehensive Community Health Assessment to identify the strengths and areas for improvement related to the health of all who live, learn, work, and spend time in Cambridge. Led by the Cambridge Public Health Department, this assessment process engages partners in various sectors to understand the social determinants of health through an equity lens.

The Community Health Assessment is a requirement for national accreditation and results in a Community Health Improvement Plan.

The latest assessment, finalized in 2020, included a community survey that was completed by more than 1,100 people; a series of focus groups to engage people who are not typically represented in survey results; and an evaluation of secondary data sources, such as mortality and hospitalization data.
