Fitness Buddies Program To Expand

June 1, 2006

Elementary schools, local businesses, and faith-based organizations are among the groups that may be selected to host a Cambridge Fitness Buddies program this fall.

Cambridge Fitness Buddies is a free 10-week program that uses the power of friends, families, and co-workers to motivate participants to be physically active on a regular basis.  It is part of the Cambridge Public Health Department’s Healthy Living Cambridge campaign.  More than 200 city residents participated in the original Fitness Buddies program held this past  winter.

Starting this June, the department will work with five local groups to launch Fitness Buddies programs for their members (or employees).  Healthy Living Cambridge staff will help the chosen sites organize an orientation session and three motivational fitness workshops for participants.  The workshops will feature nutrition and exercise suggestions, t-shirts and other giveaways, and group support.  A final celebration for all the groups will be hosted by the Cambridge Public Health Department.
