Massage and Bodywork
Effective January 2008, the Cambridge Public Health Department ceased to issue massage therapy practitioner and establishment licenses.

Oversight of massage therapists, massage facilities, and massage schools is now the responsibility of the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Massage Therapy. The Board is currently accepting individual (practitioner) license applications.

For more information, visit the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Massage Therapy website: www.mass.gov/dpl/boards/mt or call 617-727-1747.

Please note that the Board has exempted from licensure a number of "alternative modalities" that do not meet its definition of "massage therapy." If your practice would be considered an "alternative modality" by the Board and you would like to know whether Cambridge will regulate your work, please call the Cambridge Public Health Department
at 617-665-3848.

All 2008 practitioner license renewal fees submitted to the Cambridge Public Health Department will be returned. Please allow up to several weeks to receive a refund check by mail.
