Cambridge Celebrates Menís Health Month

Hoops 'N' Health scheduled for June 16

The Men’s Health League and community partners will host the annual Hoops ‘N’ Health sports tournament and other events this June to celebrate Men’s Health Month.
 
The Men’s Health League, based at the Cambridge Public Health Department, is a comprehensive men’s wellness program that promotes routine screenings, fitness and a healthy diet, and regular visits to a physician.
 
Cambridge will kick off Men’s Health Month with the annual Boys to Men Leadership Brunch on Saturday, June 2, hosted by the Men's Health League, Men of Color Task Force, and Putnam Avenue Upper School.  The event will feature a panel discussion of Cambridge men sharing personal experiences about health; break-out sessions on race, education, and health; and an awards ceremony.
  • The Henry A. Lewis III Health Leadership Award will be presented to Claude Jacob, Chief Public Health Officer, Cambridge Health Alliance/City of Cambridge.
  • The Sion Chambers Community Health Award will be presented to George Rodriguez, Coach, Cambridge Rindge and Latin School boys freshman basketball team and Youth Leader, Frisoli Youth Center.
On Saturday, June 16, the Men’s Health League, in partnership with the Men of Color Task Force, is hosting the 25th annual Hoops ‘N’ Health sports tournament and health fair at Hoyt Field in Cambridge. The event will feature basketball and flag football tournaments, an “Ask a Health Care Provider” table and health screenings, live entertainment, cooking demonstrations, information about community programs, kids’ activities, and a free healthy lunch. 
 
Players and spectators will also have a chance to win Celtics and Harlem Globetrotters tickets; meet Wally, the official Boston Red Sox mascot; and take photos with the Red Sox 2013 World Series trophy. Boys to Men Leadership Brunch

Saturday, June 2

12 p.m.-3 p.m., Putnam Avenue Upper School, 100 Putnam Ave. (enter on the Kinnaird St. entrance), Cambridge. All Cambridge men and boys are invited to come this free Men's Health League event and learn about the health of boys and men of color, community building, and more. Register on EventBrite. Men’s Health League Bike Ride

Saturday, June 16

Meet at 8:30 a.m., John W. Weeks footbridge on Memorial Drive (across from DeWolfe St.), Cambridge. The Men’s Health League is hosting a free 2½ hour bike ride on June 16. All are welcome. Hoops ‘N’ Health

Saturday, June 16

10 a.m.-6 p.m., Hoyt Field (near Gilmore St. and Western Ave.), Cambridge.
