Hoops 'N' Health scheduled for June 18
June 1, 2011
The Men’s Health League and community partners will host the annual Hoops ‘N’ Health sports tournament and other events this June to celebrate Men’s Health Month.
The Men’s Health League, based at the Cambridge Public Health Department, is a comprehensive men’s wellness program that promotes routine screenings, fitness and a healthy diet, and regular visits to a physician.
On June 18, the Men of Color Health Initiative is hosting the 18th annual Hoops ‘N’ Health sports tournament and health fair at Hoyt Field in Cambridge. In addition to basketball and flag football tournaments, this citywide event will feature live entertainment, cooking demonstrations, free food and prizes, and health information and screenings. To sign up a team, call 617-665-3769 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Other June events include bike rides and orientations for the summer sessions of two Men’s Health League programs, Fitness Brothers and Fit for Life. To learn more about these programs, please call 617-665-3677.
The Men's Health Breakfast, originally scheduled for June 25, has been canceled. A new event will be planned for later in the year.
The Men’s Health League, with funding from the federal Office of Minority Health, was launched in 2007 as a demonstration project to address cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes in men of color. Program components include wellness promotion and linkage to clinical care. The program currently receives funding from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Communities IMPACT Diabetes Center of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
