Safe Disposal of Needles and Syringes

Cambridge residents can deposit used needles and syringes into a sharps disposal kiosk at the Windsor Street Health Center, 119 Windsor Street. The kiosk is located near the lobby of the building, at the entrance to the ground floor offices (see photo). This kiosk has a one-way opening, and can accommodate coffee cans, bleach bottles, and other puncture-proof containers.

Guidelines for proper disposal of needles and syringes:

Dr. Giunta
  • Loose needles cannot be placed in the kiosk.
  • Use puncture-proof containers. Non-transparent plastic bottles such as bleach bottles, detergent containers, and coffee cans are acceptable, but must be sealed with tape.
  • The Cambridge Public Health Department will provide personal-sized sharps containers to residents who request them at our office, 119 Windsor Street, ground floor.
  • Medications and other medical supplies cannot be placed in the kiosk.
